Frequently Asked Questions
Answer all of your questions
First, we would like to assess the student’s level and areas of need. Please call us to schedule an assessment test for your child. The test is approximately 1 hour long and there is no charge. Afterwards, the result will be analyzed by Professor Ha and other teachers. You can call us back during our non-class hours for our report of your child’s level. We will also discuss how much help your child needs and set up the tutoring schedule. On your child’s first day of class, we will ask you to fill out the registration form and hand you a copy of our class policy.
We do not charge a registration fee or oblige you to sign a contract. Our tuition is based on a month to month basis.
We have many different programs to address the diverse needs of the students. Typically, our students come 2 days per week and study for 2 hours each time. You can choose the days and time that best fit the student’s schedule. Our teachers will assist the student with finishing up all school home works and projects. If the student has an upcoming exam, we will review the materials with the student. Once all school work is completed, we will give out our own worksheet to reinforce the new concepts that the students just learn. We can also give extra homework if it would help the student. We have the teachers and resources to help the student with all school subjects. You can also choose to send your child here every day after school. The students who come to our center daily eventually study at a level higher than that of their classmates. There are also student who enroll at our tutoring center because they are already ahead of their peers. For such advanced students, we have an enrichment program designed to teach them new topics and stimulate their interest in learning. The students will receive instructions on new materials each day and work on our worksheets. We periodically give out quizzes to assess the student’s level.
All of our teachers are college graduates with many years of teaching experience. Each teacher will be in charge of a small group of 4 to 5 students.
My child’s schedule may change depending upon after school sports and extracurricular activities. Also, we might not be able to attend certain days due to illness or holidays. Is there any way you can accommodate us?
At Professor Ha Tutoring Center, we understand the needs of working parents and busy students. We are very flexible with our class schedule. When signing up, you can set the tutoring schedule to fit with your child’s other commitments. Generally, we do not have class on major holidays. If your child cannot attend class due to illness or other reason, please notify us in advance. We are happy to eschedule the make-up session within two weeks of the missed class.
The students typically come to the Center twice a week for homework help. For students who are behind in class or are struggling, we recommend that they come to us 3 or more times a week. The more time we have with them, the more we can closely monitor their work and address their shortcomings.
How long will it take for my child to show progress?
We cannot give you a definite answer because each student is unique. Many factors influence a student’s education, including his or her teachers, the school curriculum, parental involvement, access to resources and tutors, and personal motivation. In our experience, for students who are really behind in school, it will take more than a few months to help them regain their foundation. This is a long term commitment that requires patience, guidance and understanding from the teachers, the parents and the tutors. Once they have caught up with their classwork and regained their confidence, then it does not take much for the students to motivate themselves. Top students will have a set goal in mind and do whatever it takes to achieve their dream. What we do is help them kindle the fire in their heart. When the students love to learn, they will learn.
Every summer, we offer enrichment programs to help the student review their previous class materials and prepare for the upcoming school year. The enrichment program is geared toward Preschool, Elementary and Middle School students. Please check out our Summer Program page for more info.
For High school students, we offer short courses in topics such as English, Writing, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Cal and Calculus. We also have SAT 1 & 2 preparation classes. The students will work in a small group and follow the lessons lead by one of our instructors. By the end of the review course, the student should have a working knowledge of the topic and be ready for school.
Yes, we can provide your child with extra work to supplement his studies and reinforce new concepts. We give all of our students a binder to keep our work. Upon requested, we will put homework in that binder for your child to complete by the next session.
The Professor Ha Tutoring Center follows the school calendar. We are open early at 2 pm on Wednesdays.
I am a full-time working parent. How would I get my child to Professor Ha Tutoring Center after school? Are there flexible pick up times?
We can refer outside transportation services to pick up your child from schools. We ask that parents pick up their child as scheduled after their 2-hour session. We understand that traffic and work obligations may prevent you from picking up your child on time. We will have the student wait in the waiting room for your arrival, and we will provide you with 15 – 20 minutes of flexibility.
There are street parkings along Oak St. and Central Ave. There are also two public parking lots nearby. Please do not use the parking lot of Dan’s Produce to drop of your child. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
